Simone Biles takes in US Open after dominant Paris Olympics showing
Simone Biles’ Olympics victory lap continued at the US Open on Wednesday night.
The 11-time Olympic medalist gymnast took in Jessica Pegula’s quarterfinal win over world No. 1 Iga Swiatek at Arthur Ashe Stadium, weeks after her prolific showing at the Paris Games.
Biles, 27, smiled and waved to spectators as fellow Olympian Pegula punched her ticket to the semifinals after topping Poland’s Swiatek in two sets, 6-2, 6-4.
Pegula, who fell to Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina in the second round of the Olympic women’s singles competition, will face Czechia’s Karolina Muchova on Thursday night.
Biles has been keeping busy stateside since returning from Paris, where she won four more Olympic medals.
The seven-time Olympic gold medalist — who was atop the podium in the team and individual all-around competitions and the vault final, in addition to earning silver in the floor exercise final — supported husband Jonathan Owens at his preseason Bears game last month in Chicago.
Dressed in an Owens-inspired jacket that featured highlights from his past season with the Packers — the Bears’ longstanding rival — Biles embraced the 29-year-old safety at Soldier Field.
Owens, who married Biles last spring, signed a two-year deal with the Bears in the offseason after spending 2023 in Green Bay.
Biles then traveled to Indiana, where she mingled with WNBA rookie sensation Caitlin Clark at a Fever game, and trekked to Houston to throw out the first pitch at an Astros game.
The superstar gymnast is set to hit the road this month as part of the Gold Over America Tour, which is described as “an exhilarating display of jaw-dropping athleticism and high-energy choreography with an inspirational message of hope, strength, resilience, and determination.”
Shows kick off in Oceanside, Calif., on Sept. 16 before wrapping in Detroit on Nov. 3.
