Reports: Patrick Mahomes has some words for those who always criticize her wife. Brittany Mahomes: She’s a Hall of Fame mom and a Hall of Fame wife, and she pushes me to be great, and she’s done a lot of great things herself.” Y’all should stop bullying her.
Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes is not one to stir the pot. Whenever he is in the headlines, it is usually due to his play on the field, and for good reason. In just six seasons as a starting quarterback in the NFL, he has won the league MVP Award twice, three Super Bowls, and three Super Bowl MVP’s.
In addition to the trophies on his mantle, Mahomes has put up monster numbers on the field. In his first year as a starter, he became just the third quarterback in NFL history to throw 50 touchdown passes in a season. In 2022, the year he won his second MVP Award, he led the league in passing yards (5,250 yards) and touchdown passes (41). At just 29 years old, Mahomes is in the midst of his prime and should put up record-setting numbers by the time his career.
Whereas Mahomes has made many positive headlines for his play on the field, his wife, Brittany Mahomes, has often been the target of many negative stories.
Brittany Mahomes is no stranger to being in the headlines for less than ideal reasons. When Patrick’s career first started to take off, she and Jackson Mahomes were often targets of criticism for their TikTok videos. While these videos were often harmless, one of Jackson dancing on the memorial of murdered Washington Commanders legend Sean Taylor sparked outrage.
While Brittany did not often respond to critics of her social media videos, she did start to get heat for engaging with critics of her husband’s play. This included members of the media, specifically on SportsCenter. One post directed at the popular ESPN show she made on Twitter read, “Y’all are [trash can emojis] for this too, but he looks d— good to me.. … Not how we wanted it to end, but 15 played his heart out and I’m always and forever proud of him in everything he does. Now let’s have a baby!”
In January of 2022, Brittany was dragged on social media because she sprayed champagne into a crowd of fans following a Chiefs’ playoff victory. “I just wish I could do what I want without getting attacked every week,” she said at the time.
Most recently, Brittany has come to the defense of Taylor Swift on social media. The two have become friends since the 14-time Grammy Award winner started dating Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce. Her statements in defense of the popstar and her affect on the NFL and its fans have also garnered her criticism from the more misogynistic fans on social media.
I think people don’t even realize how much she does,” Patrick Mahomes said. “I mean, taking care of the day-to-day stuff and make it where I can focus on football and focus on my craft and everything like that.”
“[She’s] a Hall of Fame mom and a Hall of Fame wife, [which] makes it a lot easier. I mean, when you get to come home and your best friend’s there and you can just hang out, it makes you want to be there all the time and she pushes me to be great and she’s done a lot of great things herself.”
Will the quarterback’s message be enough to stop the hate from coming his wife’s way? Almost certainly not. Unfortunately, a screen gives people a sense of invincibility and they are prone to say awful things to or about just about anyone.
