Kate Middleton today revealed the news that she has completed a course of preventative chemotherapy treatment following her cancer diagnosis, and is now focusing on healing and recovery.

Joined by her husband Prince William and their three children, Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6, the Princess spoke over an emotional family video as she told of her huge “relief” to have reached the milestone. She also confirmed her return to work by undertaking “a few more public engagements in the coming months”.

Kate was seen staring adoringly at William as the pair held hands, laughed and kissed each other, while another set of clips saw her jumping on hay bales and playing cards with her children in Norfolk. Kate, 42, said: “Doing what I can to stay cancer free is now my focus. Although I have finished chemotherapy, my path to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes.”

The news also appears to have prompted the Prince and Princess of Wales to make one change – as Royal fans quickly noticed the couple had taken stills from the video to update their profile pictures. The Kensington Royal X account shared the snaps with its 2.9million followers – with an updated profile picture showing the pair laughing in the middle of the woods, along with a landscape header of the family smiling into the camera.

The video is considered to be the Wales’ most intimate yet, with Kate and William filmed lying down on the sand at the beach giggling, with Kate’s arm draped over her husband’s shoulder. Another shot sees William tenderly stroke Kate’s hand as she speaks bravely about her recovery in the accompanying voiceover.

Kate is heard saying: “As the summer comes to an end, I cannot tell you what a relief it is to have finally completed my chemotherapy treatment. The last nine months have been incredibly tough for us as a family. Life as you know it can change in an instant and we have had to find a way to navigate the stormy waters and road unknown.

The cancer journey is complex, scary and unpredictable for everyone, especially those closest to you. With humility, it also brings you face to face with your own vulnerabilities in a way you have never considered before, and with that, a new perspective on everything.

This time has above all reminded William and me to reflect and be grateful for the simple yet important things in life, which so many of us often take for granted. Of simply loving and being loved. I am however looking forward to being back at work and undertaking a few more public engagements in the coming months when I can. Despite all that has gone before, I enter this new phase of recovery with a renewed sense of hope and appreciation of life.

“William and I are so grateful for the support we have received and have drawn great strength from all those who are helping us at this time. Everyone’s kindness, empathy and compassion has been truly humbling.

The Princess of Wales then delivered a heartfelt message to those impacted by cancer, ending her statement with: “To all those who are continuing their own cancer journey – I remain with you, side by side, hand in hand. Out of darkness, can come light, so let that light shine bright.”
