Jennifer Lopez Admitted She Got Drunk to Shoot 1 Scene in ‘The Wedding Planner’

Jennifer Lopez scarcely drinks, but she had to film a scene in which she was drunk for The Wedding Planner. Lopez wanted to perform the scene to the best of her ability. To do so, she said she began taking shots of vodka. She shared how she felt while shooting the scene.

While Lopez said she will occasionally have a sip or two of alcohol, she hardly ever drinks.

She gets intoxicated vicariously,” her manager Benny Medina told W Magazine. “Occasionally, if she’s feeling really wild, she and her girlfriends will order something called a Buttery Nipple – it’s like chocolate milk. She’ll have one sip, and that’s her idea of losing it.”

Therefore, when Lopez saw that she had to play drunk for a scene in The Wedding Planner, she was nervous. Her solution was to teach herself what it felt like to be drunk by taking shots of vodka on set.

“For The Wedding Planner, I had to do a drunk scene,” she said. “I’m freaking, ’cause I’ve never been drunk! After six [shots], I admit, I felt a little warm and woozy.”

Eventually, director Adam Shankman told her to stop.

While Shankman may not have wanted her drinking on the job, he said Lopez impressed him. He had heard rumors that she was a diva, but he found her to be hardworking and driven.

“The real Jen’s all about her work,” Shankman said. “When I met her, she’d just gotten a divorce, and all she wanted was to succeed. So she likes nice stuff, a big trailer — who doesn’t? She has no fear of asking for what she wants. I admire that.”

Shankman said Lopez proved to him and the crew that she was very generous, despite what people might say about her.

“She got an 18-wheel gym,” Shankman said. “It seemed like a big perk for her, but then she opened it up to the whole crew. She’s actually really generous.”

Though Lopez doesn’t drink more than a few sips of alcohol at a time, she started a cocktail brand called Delola in 2023. This reportedly did not go over well with her then-husband, Ben Affleck.

Affleck has spoken openly about his alcoholism and didn’t appreciate the fact that his wife was trying to profit off a cocktail line.
