Exclusive: NFL Executive Claims Patrick Mahomes Hasn’t ‘Truly Improved’ in Crucial Area
Patrick Mahomes is virtually unanimously considered the best QB in the NFL, fresh off his third Super Bowl MVP honor. Even still, one NFL executive apparently believes there’s one area Mahomes hasn’t improved throughout his Hall of Fame-level career.
Jeremy Fowler of ESPN had a number of high-ranking officials anonymously rank QBs. Mahomes took home the top spot to no surprise, but apparently rivals believe he can get even better.
With two MVPs under his belt on top of the postseason hardware already and a revamped offensive supporting cast, Mahomes could be in line for his best year yet.

Mahomes’ legs are the stuff of legend in Kansas City, with several marquee plays made at the end of close games on the ground to help seal a win. However, the executive Fowler spoke to thinks that Mahomes hasn’t gotten any better with his footwork since coming into the league.
“‘What’s funny is he can still improve,’ a high-ranking NFL official said. ‘He’s never truly improved his footwork since he’s been in the league. It hasn’t mattered because he’s so good.'”
He’s certainly gotten better with his footwork, though perhaps the official has a point that Mahomes could reach a new level. Seemingly coming out better every year, that could be one area Mahomes and his team have focused on this offseason. If there is a new level he can reach, the rest of the league is in big, big trouble.
Last year, Mahomes completed a career-high 67.2% of his passes despite his receivers leading the NFL in drops (44), adding a career-high in rushing yards (389) as well. Provided the additions of Marquise Brown and Xavier Worthy pay dividends, the sky is the limit.
As is often the case, I expect Mahomes to take this quote as a slight and use it to his advantage. He’s busted out some fancy footwork in the past and I predict we’ll see it again soon.
