Minnesota vs. North Carolina: Nail-Biting Game…
Despite her struggles on serve, Swiatek was on course to win the match comfortably in straight sets. However, Rakhimova broke the top seed when she was serving for the match at 5-4 in the second set.
The Russian player looked set to win the second set as she held three set points in the tiebreak. However, Swiatek showed why she sits at the top of the rankings by winning the last five points to close out the match.
Iga Swiatek hopes to become a threat outside Roland Garros
Iga Swiatek is bidding for a second US Open title this year. The Polish superstar has won five Grand Slams in her career, but four of them have come at Roland Garros.
This year, she repeated that success by beating Jasmine Paolini in the French Open final to claim her most recent Grand Slam title. However, she was unable to replicate that success at the Olympic Games, where she only managed to claim the bronze medal.
With the clay season behind her, Swiatek hopes to find success on hard courts once again. She arrives at Flushing Meadows following a semifinal loss to Aryna Sabalenka in Cincinnati. Swiatek has won five titles in 2024, two of them on hard courts. Her major tournament win on hard courts came at Indian Wells, where she defeated Maria Sakkari in the final.
